The local acting registrar (Mr W. J. Cryer) advises that there were .’io deaths in Paeroa during April. Three marriages and twelve births were registered during the month.
The Treasury acknowledges receipt ■of the following amounts bf conscience money forwarded to the Government : £1 10s to tlie Railway Department, Wellington, £l5 to the Land and Income Tax Department, Wellington, and £1 8s to the Collector of Customs, Christchurch.
The following fixtures Eave been arranged by tlie Paeroa Rugby Union for to-morrow :—Seniors : East v. Suburbs, at the Racecouiwe, Paeroa ; West v. Ncthertim, at Netherton. Juniors : East v. Karangahakc, at Racecourse ; Netherton v. Suburbs, at Hiitutaia. The junior match at Paeroa will commence at 2 pm. sharp, followed by the senior match.
The weather locally du’ing April was exceptionally dry, and the total rainfall for the month was the lowest on record for many >ear*. The following figures have been supplied by the Paeroa office of the Public Works Department, those in parenthesis being for April, 1924 : The total rainfall registered was .9in(B.9Bin). The local members of the Presbyterian Church Bible Class assembled on . Wednesday evening to mark the occasion of the approaching marriage of one of their number, Mr Jack Buchanan. The function took the form of a kitchen evening, anul the opening of the parcels caused much amusement. The articles ranged from eggcups and rolling pins to a cheesegrator, and many reams of paper must have been used in the wrappings. The evening was brought to a close with the serving of supper In the vestry, which was specially decorated for the occasion. ,
