NGATEA. REFEREES’ ASSOCIATION. yhe first of the weekly meetings of the. Hauraki Plains Rugby Referees’ Association was held at Ngatea bn Monday evening last, Mr J. Darlington presiding over a small attendance.

Referees’ reports were read and adopted after discussion. The question .of the shape of sprigs in players’ boots was discussed, and members were reminded to examine boots in future.

Ihc secretary was instructed to write to members who were not. presen! and remind them to forward reports for the regular meeting on Monday evening-if unable to be present. Referees were instructed to enforce, the ruleis, and not permit a player to take the field unices wearing proper colours.

HIKUTAIA.

A FAREWELL AFTERNOON.

The people of Hikutaia gathered together in the district hail on Wednesday last to bid farewell to one of the township's oldest families, Air and Airs T. Corbett and family. The hall was brilliantly decorated with autumn tints. The stage resembled a draw-ing-room, and there the afternoon tea was set out.

Most’ of those present engaged eagerly in the euchre' which wap in progress during the early part of the, afternoon. Several vocal, pianoforte, and violin solos added to tlto, enjoyment of the entertainment.

On behalf of the residents of Hikutia Mr E. Elliot presented Air and Mrs Corbett with a Morris chair, cushion, and eiderdown. ‘ Mr A. Alley apologised for Mr Corbett’s absence and thanked the Hikutaia people for their presents. Miss N. Corbett added thanks for their kindness.
