PERMANENT ROADING.
IMPROVEMENTS AT TURUA. PROGRESS OF THE WORK.’ Steady progress is being made with the road improvement works in and around Turua. Steady, supplies of road metal are arriving for the contractors, and only about 30 chains of the Turua-Orongo road remain to be done. Four or f five scowloads of mdtal from the Thames Quarries, Tararu, are arriving weekly, and this is being used for the bottom counse., while Kauaeranga metal, of which about three puntloads arrive weekly, is used for the top course. As it has been difficult to obtain sufficient supplies of chips, no bitumdn spraying work has been possible for some time. Scarifying and forming has commenced on that part of Piako Road in the town board area, and one scowload of metal has been spread. Many of the holes in the other portion of the road have been filled with metal by the contracting company. A small amount of metal chips is now available. and it its the intention of the company to complete several portions of Hauraki Road in the area within the next few days,
The County Council’s plant is engaged on Orchard East Road. Metalling should be completed now, and the sealing work by the end of the week. The Turua-Netherton road has been completed approximately to Mr D. G. McMillan's gate, and tramrails have been laid along a portion of the uncompleted road and men are engaged laying a. line from the ferry landing. The portable bitumen heater is now being used,, as the bottom Was recently burnt out of an iron tank in the fixed heater on Orchard East Rbad.
