HORAHIA DRAINAGE.
MEETING OF BOARD.
The regular meeting of the Horaiiia Kneebone's residence, Horahia, on Drainage Board was held at. Mr F. A. Friday last, Mr W. McDuff presiding over Messrs F. A. Kneebone, J. C. Miller, W. E. Hale, J. M. Thompson, and the clerk, Mr W. E. G. .Willy. PRICE’S OUTLET. The Board’s foreman, Mr E. Flaveli, reported that the work in Price’s.outlet was being neutralised by .the action of landowners permitting stock to wander on the banks and into- the drains to drink. The landowners had been given notice to fence, but so iar nothing had been done. A bridge had been placed across the drain, and this was interfering with the outlet and should be removed, hs also should a fallen tree and certain earth. Members considered that draetic action should be taken, and it was decided that Mr Price be notified that the board would hold him responsible for alldda mage caused to the drain by his cattle, and by the pollution of the drain from his cowshed, and that he be given seven days to notify the board in writing of what action he was taking to keep l his cattle off the drain"banks, legal action to be taken if he did not state his intentions. It was also decided that Mr Clotworthy be asked to remove a .tree bridge and earth, or he would be charged with the cost, and the secretary and overseer were given power to act. MILLER’S OUTLET. Sveral tender’s for the work on Miller's outlet were received and the lowest was accepted: it was reported that the flood-gate was broken. Acting on instructions the foreman had approached the Lands Drainage Engineer and had been granted the loan of a gate. DUAL DRAIN. .The position in regard tp dual controlled drains was discussed. The secretary reported that most of the dual drains in the Hauraki Board’s area had been cleaned an l. an account for the board’s share had been forwarded. This was discussed and an item concerning the cost of the Towers outlet was queried,‘it being decided to inform the Hauraki board that this board was not’committed to anything above 12s a chain. BALANCE-SHEET. A. statement of receipts .and expenditrue for the year ended March 31, 1925, was presented by the treasurer. This was signed by the chairman and ordered to be sent to the Audit Department. APPOINTMENT OF ENGINEER. Tl’e Hauraki Plains County Council having granted permission for its assistant engineer, Mr J l . N. Anderson. to undertake the work of engineer for the board during the next few months under certain conditions, it was decided that he be appointed. NEW WPRK. Considerable discussion ensued on the. question of carrying out work already authorised, Messrs Miller and McDuff urging that the engineer be instructed to prepare, plans and specifications and Messrs Hale and Kneebone advocating delaying the work until the comprehensive scheme was under way. Mssrs’ Miller and. McDuff pointed out the urgency of the work, , while Messis Hale and Kneebone .were of opinion that the completion of. the work in one area would prejudice the carrying of a loan for the comprehensive scheme. On the chairman’s casting vote it wa? decided that the engineer prepare plans and specifications, for a flocd-gate at Shelly Beach and for a now drain btween the properties of Messrs Louch and Me Duff, the latter work to cost the same as the amount previously allocated for a sluice-gate near the Ngatea bridge.
