NGATEA. PRESENTATION TO FOOTBALLERS. Presentations to four men prominent in football circles were made at a social organised by the Turua Football Club and held in the Victoria, Hall on Wednesday evening. In making a presentation of a case of Loewe pipes and a tobacco pouch mutably engraved to Mr G. Porteous and Mr R. Gibbons, Mr C. Scott, on behalf of the. club, said that had ’t not been for these two ardent supporters football in Turua would ve at a low ebb. They were hard worker-/. and their actions, were heartily appreciated. iMr Porteous, who was taken by surprise, in" returning thanks said that what little he had done for football in Turua he had done because he loved the sport.

Mr R. Gibbons also returned thanks

Earlier in the evening Mr G. Porteous presented handsome gold inedals, donated by himself and MiGibbons for the most consistent senior and junior player in the Turua club during the past year, to Mr AV. Clark and Mr R. Madgwick.

There were about 40' couples at the function, and dancing was carried on until a late hour. The dance music was supplied by local people, including Miss Molloy, Mrs Mules, Mrs J. Thrapp, and Mr H, Trcwheller (piano), Mr L. Henwood (comet), Miss H. Spencer, Mr D. Hill, and Mr D. Cooper (violin), and Mr L. Bowden (drums). Songs were contributed by Miis W. Clark, Mn A. Sutton, and Messrs H. Robinson and L. Bowden. ’ HIKUTAIA. TENNIS. Saturday last was an ideal day for tennis, and the Hikutaia B team spent a most'delightful few hours at Netherton. The match commenced early. Following are the scores, Hikutaia playeis' being mentioned first Ladies’ Singles : Mrs Alexander beat Miss Haligan, 6—o; Miss M. Vowles beat Miss Hayward, 6—3; Miss A. Morrison lost to Miss Hill, J —6 ; Miss P. Hanlen lost to Mrs Richmond, I—6. Men’s Singles: Paetai beat B. Johnny,, 7__4 ; r. Rare beat R. Morrison. 7—l; R. Samson beat Williams, 7—l; C. Murdock lost to Potter, I—7.1 —7. Ladies’ Doubles : Mrs Alexander and Miss Vowles beat Miss Haligan and Miss Hayward. 6—2; Miss Morrison and Miss Hanlen lost to Miss Hill and Mrs -Richmond, 2 —6. Men’s Doubles : W. Paetai and R. Rare beat Johnson and Morrison, 7—o ; R. Samson and C. Murdock lost to Williams and Potter, 6 —7. Combined Doubles : Mrs Alexander and Paetai beat Mi',ss Haligan and Johnson, 7 —4 ; Miss Vowles and Rare beat Miss Hayward and RMorrison, 7—2 ; Miss A. Morrison and R. Samson lost to Miss Hill and Williams, 4—7 ; Miss P. Hanlen and C. Murdock lost to Mrs Richmond and Potter, 3—7. Totals': Hikutaia 78, Netherton 63.
