DISTRICT NEWS.

KARANGAHAJUL FOOTBALL. The return match between Karangahake and Waikino was played at on Saturday in the presence of many spectators. The game was evenly contested but the training of the visiting team told in. the concluding portion of the match, with the result that the visitors proved victorious by 11 points to 3. For the winners tries were scored by M. McLeod, J. Carlton (2), while J. O’Brien wae successful in converting one try. Zenovich scored for Waikino. Mr W. Bramble was referee, : The pleasure of the match was marred by an unfortunate accident, in which F. Franks, a Waikino player, had his arm broken above the wrist. After receiving first aid he was convoyed to the Waihi Hospital for medical attention. PUBLIC HALL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Karanganake Public Hall Committee was held on Saturday evening, Mr J. B, Morris presiding. The following report was adopted - “For a number of years our little township has been gradually losing its importance. Consequently* the public hall has both financially and structurally drifted into a bad state. However, at the beginning of theiyear the committee resolved to carry oht some urgent alterations to the hall inthe hope of providing better convenience for the public, A sum of £25 was spent on these improvements, and with the generous support of the public this debt has been fully paid-off. ■‘Owing to the closing down of the Paeroa Gasworks the committee found it necessary to make arrangements in regard to lighting. A very satisfactory agreement was made with Messrs Aitken and Son, with the result that the hall is now lit by electricity.” A vote of thanks to the chairtnan concluded the meeting.
