UNSKILLED WORKERS
RATE OF WAGES. LOCAL BODY EMPLOYEES. The average rate o£ wages or unskilled employees of local bodies is disclosed in the Government Statistician’s report for the year 1923-24. In 1915 there were 6453 full-time permanent employees earning an average wage of £l5l 17s lOd each. Last year the number was. 10,072, with an average wage of £233 12s 7d. Parttime employees numbered 69 in 1915, their average earnings being £4O JL7s 8d and in 1923-i24 the number was 175, their average earnings being £72 16s 7d. Casual employees on the average numbered 5455 in 1915, their earnings being an average of £129 13s 2d. In 1923-24 the number was 5973, and their earnings £221 2s 4d. Taking an average of all employees, which includes casual and part-time hands, the rates were. £l4l 2s 7d in 1.914-15, and £227 7s in 1923-24.
