HAURAKI DRAINAGE BOARD.
(To the Editor J. Sir,—l certainly do not agree with Mr Willy’s claim to be one of . the founders of the Hauraki Drainage Board. The settlers of Turua formed a branch of the Farmers’ Unio.i on the 12th February, 1915, for r.ne express, purposed of, among other matters, forming a Drainage Board, and I think Mr Willy must remember that he wars opposed to the formation of (he union, although afterwards he joined. Later on, at a meeting of the union, a committee was formed, w-iia Mr Hector Torr as secretary, he doing the whole of the organising work and bringing the Hauraki Drainage Board into being. Mr Torr acted as returning officer, and convened be first meeting of the board, of which I was a member and the first chairman. Mr Willy was not a member of that committee, and I would like to know where he comes in as one of the founders of the board. With regard to the claim of being one of the founders of the Hauraki Plains County, I think most peopl would rather describe Mr Willy being a well-paid “ employee ” of the founders of the county. I am. etc..
