DOG CAUSES ACCIDENT.
JIGGER DERAILED ON WAIHI LINE A WORKER INJURED. A dog was responsible for an accident on the Waihi-Athenree railway line at about 7.30 o’clock on Wednesday morning. It appears that the aniniai attempted to run across the metals immediately hi front of a jigger, on which four workers in the employ of the Public Works Department were travelling, at a point about 100 yards from the department’s office, but failed to get clear before the jigger struck it. The canine was killed outright, and the force of the impact was such as to cause the jigger to leave the rails. One of those on it, Mr E. F. Ward, was thrown heavily to the ground, sustaining injuries to his back, wrist, and one of his logs. The injured man was assisted into his hut close by, and Dr. Short was pomptly summoned. After a brief examination of the man’s i.nuries Dr. Short ordered- his removal to the Waihi Hospital for treatment — Waihi Telegraph.
