BAND CONCERT.

ENJOYABLE PROGRAMME. The band concert, which was given under the auspices of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce by the Hauraki Regimental band at the main street rotunda on Friday evening was much appreciated.by the large concourse of people which assembled The rotunda was gaily decorated with coloured electric light globes, and added quite a carnival air to the proceedings. The band, under Lieutenant A. Clarke, comprising 27 members in uniform, arrived by motor bus and car from Thames, and commenced its ' programme shortly after 7 p.m. and continued.until after nine o’clock. The rounds of applause that were accorded at ■ the conclusion of each selection bore striking testimony of the appreciation of the public. Being the late, shopping night a large number of country folk availed themselves of the opportunity to do their business and also attend the band concert. The main street was crowded during the evening, but .it was a good-natured gathering, and the police had no difficulty*in controlling the traffic.

At the conclusion of the concert tne band was entertained to supper ny the Chamber of Commerce in tne Bowling Club’s pavilion, which had been kindly loaned for the purpose by the Bowling Club. After refreshments had been served His Worship .the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) briefly thanked the band for. its services, and assured the members’" that the residents of Paeroa had eagerly looked forward to hearing ite pwn regimental band, and the programme of music submitted that evening had been fully enjoyed. v

In reply to the M.ayor, Lieutenant Clarke said that it had given his band considerable pleasure to come to Paeroa, and he wished to. thank the public for the hearty reception it. had given the band. The bandmaster said that he hoped that that visit of the band to the town would only be the forerunner of further visits. He wished to thank the Mayor and the members o£, the Chamber of Commerce for the excellent arrangements made and the cordial welcome that had been given that evening. In conclusion he assured the gathering that the band would welcome an opp-w--tunity to visit Paeroa on some future occasion.

The proceedings terminated with a couple of selections and an interchange of cheers. . The action of the chamber in arranging for the band concert cannot lie too highly commended, and it is fully expected that the local business men will back up the efforts of the chamber in providing an -"evening’s enjoyment for the- public by subscribing liberally towards the/expeuses entailed.
