VALEDICTORY.
MR. J. A. ARTHUR.
A social gathering organised by the local railway’ staff to farewell Mr I. A. Arthur, who has been stationmaster at Paeroa. for the last fifteen months, was held in the Druids’ Hall on Friday evening last. Mr J. W. Staunton, senior clerk, presided. The proceeding were most enthusiastic throughout, and the large attendance of railwaymen bore sufficient testimony of the esteem in which the gueist of the evening was held by his staff. A lengthy toast-list was honoured, being interspersed with musical items, and during the evening Mr Staunton, on behalf of the railwaymen in Paeroa, presented Mr Arthur with a gold-mounted fountain pen and a gold eversharp pencil, and he was also tusked to accept a handsome rose bowl on behalf of Mrs Arthur.
Eulogistic references were made t? to tiie good qualities of their guest by the various speakers during the evening.
Mr Arthur left Paeroa by last night’s train, on route to Taihape, to which town.he has been transferred.
