DAIRY COMPETITION.
NGATEA T.U. RESOLUTION. CONDEMNED BY BUSINESSMEN. ' 'The resolution passed recently by a small meeting of the Ngatea branch of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union inviting competition in the dairy industry at Ngatea was the subject of some caustic criticism by farmers at the Chamber of Commerce meeting at Ngatea on Tuesday evening, and it was moved by a fanner member “that this meeting of the Ngatea Chamber of Commerce views with surprise and concern the resolution passed by the Ngatea Farmers’ Union inviting some outside dairy company into the district to compete with their own company in collecting cream. Surely, this is directly against all principles of co-operation, which is generally acknowledged*to be the watchword ol Farmers’ Unions right throughout the Dominion.”
The idea of the motion was supported by the chamber, but some members voiced the opinion that the subject was not one for a chamber of commerce to deal with. Other members pointed out that chambers in large cities wcie working-actively against the Dairy Control Act.
Finally it was decided: ."That this meeting of the Chamber of Commerce endorses the expression of opinion of its farmer members that it is in the best, interests of the farming community io support .the N.Z. Co-op. Dairy Co.
