One of those shots that good bowlers dream about but seldom see was played on the Levin green recently by a skip in a friendly game. The opposing side was lying six up, when the skip sent down his last bowl. It scattered the opposing bowls in all directions and carried “kitty” down among his own shots, which were lying farther back, with the result that the rink won by seven up, instead of losing by six down. A shot that scores thirteen is ■claimed as something of a Dominion record.—Levin Chronicle.

Like the fusel oil in bad whisky, so the nicotine in strong tobacco is injurious to health. It is an astonishing fact that the. leaf produced in certain localities of the Auckland . and Nelson districts contains less nicotine than any other tobacco known. This is of the utmost importance with regard to the development of the N.Z. Tdbacco industry, because it is just these mild types, of leaf that are cageily sought after by manufacturers abroad, and fabulous prices are often paid forthem. New Zealand, indeed, will become famous for its unique tobacco, and the local product will be our national smoke. Unlike some of the foreign tobaccos, the N.Z. article docs not bite the tongue, it smokes smooth and mellow, and leaves the mouth sweet and clean. Moreover, it is all pure tobacco with a distinctive flavour, obtainable in various strengths. Cut Plug No. 10 for those who appreciate a full body, and R-verhead Gold for the lover of a very i.iild aromatic, while Toasted Navy Cut (Bulldog) represents the medium strength.*
