HAURAKI DRAINAGE BOARD.
tTo the Editor.! Sir, —I notice in a late issue o£ your paper, in announcing Mr W. E. G. Willy’s candidature for the Thames seat at the forthcoming election, you credit him with, among other things, being one of the founders of the Hauraki Drainage Board, Your informant, Mr Editor, must have been dreaming, as Mr Willy had nothing to do with the founding of the board. 1 was resident in Turua at the time, and these are the facts. A public meeting was convened by Mr J. Bennett, who got the organising secretary of the Auckland Provincial Fanners’ Union to attend. Mr R. W, Bagnall presided, and a strong branch of the Farmers’ Union was formed, Mr R. W, Bagnall president, and Mr J, E. Green secretary, with a strong executive, of which I was one. This body (of which Mr Willy was not one—he joining later) was formed specially to attend to certain matters necessary to the progress of the district, among which the formation of a drainage beard was placed first. WHO’S WHO. Turua, March 6, 1925.
