KIRIKIRI BRIDGE.
■ ' ' preliminaries ARRANGED. TENDERS TO BE INVITED. For many months past employees 0f... the Public Works Department, under thb supervision of Mr L. May, engineer in charge, have been engaged driving trial piles on the site of the . proposed Kirikiri bridge, and it is satisfactory to learn that the bottom ■ is such as to ensure a stable foundation for the structure. Matters have been advanced so far that the work of preparing the plans and detailed specifications for the undertaking can be proceeded with., aiid it can readily be realised that this its no small job. as it involves every item in the huge structure, with opeinng span for the passage of vessels engaged in the river trade, being . provided for. The member for the district (Mr T. W: Rhodes) had an interview withthe Minister for Public Works (the Hon. -J. G. Coates) in Wellington during the'past few days, and received an assurance that everything practicable would be done to have the work of construction put in hand as early as possible, but that so far as he could judge it would be about three; months before tenders could be invited. —Thames Star.
