The necessary alteration to the low tension electric reticulation in Hill and Coronation streets and Taylor’s Avenue has now been completed by the Power Board, and consumers are being connected.
At the Methodist Conference, which is at present being held in Wellington, tlie first reading of the stationing committee provided for the appointment of the Rev. A. M. Costain to Pam-oa. The Rev. A. E. Jefferson, Paeroa, goes to Marton.
In order that there .will be ats little delay as possible in getting down to work when the Ngatea District High School reopens the headmaster and the secondary department teacher are attending from 9.30 a.m. till 11.30 a.m. daily for the purpose of enrolling pupils and ararnging the acquisition of text-books. Parents are urged to enroll pupils as early as possible, so that complete arrangements can be made. The headmaster has aliso arranged a scheme of homework for the upper classes. Lessons are being set ami left at the factory, where parents may obtain particulars and leave tho completed work.
Although suppiiejs of road metal for the Turua-Netherton bitumei wading work are coming forward regularly the amount is small, and slow progress only can be made.
Discussing manuring at a meeting of Kaihere settlers a mixture of 3cwt of basic slag and 3cwt of Kainit to the acre was recommended bv a prominent agriculturist. The peat soil was deficient in potash and phosphoric acid, and this would be supplied by kainit and the basic slag. They should not be mixed until Just before use. Kainit was better, in his opinion, than muriate of potash.
The metalling of the Kaihere road is proceeding very slowly owing ! o irregular supplies of metal. Mechanical troubles on the towing steamer and the sinking of punts are largely responsible. Much reclaying is being done on the Torch ape road, but it is still in a very rough state.
