HAURAKI DRAINAGE.

MEETING OF HOARD. The regular meeting of the Hauraki Drainage Board was held at Turua on Friday last, Mr G. Gray presiding over Messrs J. Mules, D. G. McMillan, R. Baker, and R. IL Heappey. The clerk, Mr J. E. Green was in attendance. SPOIL ON ROADSIDE. The county engineer advised that he had inspected the main road drain from the Willow drain .to Orchard ’ East corner and was satisfied in regard to the spoil deposited on the roadside. Consent to the depositing of • spoil on the roatfeide from Orchard East Road to Kerepeehi was granted provided the work was not done so as to interfere with.,the council’s roadwork. - Consent to the depositing of spoil on. the roadside from the Jubilee outlet to the Willow drain, was granted pending its removal by the board. Consent to the depositing of spoil from the roadside drain from Mules’, outlet to Orongo was also granted. The whole of the spoil is required on the roadside, and the council will pay such small extra cost of depositing the whole of it on the roadside. FLOOD DAMAGE GRANT. The resident engineer. Public Works Department, Paeroa, wrote advising that proposals for repairs to ? flood damages should include all permanent works —that was, those carried out immediately after the damage was sustained, and those still to be done. - TOWNSHIP WATER-TABLES. The Rev. J. M. Beaufort wrote asking whether the board would be willing to lower, the water-table from the - Church of England site to the main road In winter the church was almost inaccessible through the flooding and if the request could be ac-. ceded to a serious inconvenience te many people would be obviated. The chairman said that the job was' one for the Town Board. TE KAURI No. 1 OUTLET. Messrs K. Fox and W. McKee waited upon the board and asked for consideration to be given to a request , that a small drain be made to take their water to the Thames Valley outlet Tlie present outlet for their sections was the No. 1 Te Kauri drain,, wh’ch was recognised as unsatisfac- 7 tory. The matter was discussed at length, members acknowledging the reasonableness of the request, the obstacle being to find the money. Finally it was decided that Messrs McMillan and Baker, the area members concerned, meet the settlers and go into the matter. They were .to have power to act. LOAN MONEYS. The clerk reported that of the £5OO loan £lO5 was available for the Te Kauri area, together with an equal amount of subsidy. The question to be decided quickly was how the loan was to’be spent in time to lift the subsidy. Much work had been done in anticipation of the loan money.becoming available, but the delay in this had made it necessary to pay for the work out of the general account. In the northern area £63 10s of the loan was available, and an equal amouiH of subsidy. AU had been spent. The Turua area h.ad been allocated £6O 10s, the central area £l2O, and the Monganui area £l5O, and very little had been spent. DRAIN CLEANING. The tenders received for cleaning, improving, and repairing the drains in the board’s area were discussed.
