DOMAIN BOARD.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Paeroa Domain Board was held on Thursday evening last, following on the Borough’ Council meeting, the chairman (Mr W. Marshall) presiding. WORK ON PLAYING AREA. A. W. Curtis, Paeroa, tendered for the work of ploughing and levelling the playing area of the domain at a cost of £498. 7t was moved by Mr Brenan that the Domain Committee be authorised to make arrangements with Mr Curtis to do the work on .a day labour basis at a total cost of approximately £3OO. Mr Vuglar questioned the legality of letting the job on day work, in preference to calling tenders for any job over £2O.
The chairman pointed out that tenders had been called twice, but the committee had decided to adopt cheaper methods of getting the work done. Mr Vuglar said it was scandalous to think that in a place such as Paeroa only one tender for that class of work should be forthcoming. He contended that it was a pity some farmers could not tender for the work. “It would pay them far better than milking.” he concluded. Tne resolution was carried. KING STREET EXTENSION. The Chief Surveyor, Auckland, forwarded duplicate plans and schedules of the King Street extension, and pointed out that by proclamation published in the N.Z. Gazette in 1915 the control of the Paeroa Domain was vested in the Borough Council. That fact necessitated the consent of the council, as a domain board, to the taking and closing of roads through and adjoining the domain. After the necessary consent had been obtained and witnessed the tracings and schedules should be for, weirded to the district engineer, Public Works Department, for report and submission «.o his head office, for issue of proclamation in terpis of section 12 of the I,and Act, 1924.
The chairman explained that the matter affected the purchase of a small piece of land from the Presbyterian Church trustees, and the putting of the right-of-way through from King Street to Corbett Street. It was resolved that the council, as the Domain Board, consent to the land in sections 10 and 11, block X., town of Paeroa, containing an area of 1 rood 3.4 perches, being taken and itsed for the purposes of a new road, anti also consent to the closing of the ol.d read abutting on sections 10 and 11. block X. and block XIV. containing an area of 15.9 perches, and such closed area to be incorporated in the Faeroa Domain, and the consents to be duly signed and sealed. damaged FENCE. Mr Brenan drew attention to the dilapidated state of the wire fence at the northern end of the domain. He said that many of the wires had been looseened by children in the vicinity swinging on them. As a result the
horses were getting out and damaging the footpath. It was agreed to put the fence J n order, and that the parents of children living in the vicinity be requested to see that the fence is not further damaged.
