.MEETING OF ASSOCIATION. KOPUARAHI WINS SHIELD. .A meeting of the Hauraki Plains Tennis Association was held at Ngatea on Wednesday, Mr B. Frecldington piesiding over Messrs D. Pike, L. Penny. J. Law, J. N. Anderson, L. Williams, and A. R. Vowles (hon. secretary). “E” GRADE COMPETITION. Considerable discussion took place in regard to the effect of the forfeited matches on the result of the Hayward Shield competition for “B” grade teams, as owing to an oversight the Question of what points should be awarded in such cases had not been settled. In the early part of the season the Kerepeehi team defaulted to Kopuarahi, as its courts were not ready for use, and, overlooking the possible effect on that team’s total, did not aisk tor a later date to be set aside for the mathc.

With one match yet to play the Turns, team’s points stood at 474. whereas Kopuarahi had 478 and/ its win by default from Kerepeehi. tl

was acknowledged by some delegates that the Kopuarahi team should be given some consideration for its win by default, but to "hive it the maximum of 105 points: would be to give it the shield, whereas to award less than the maximum would possibly permit Turua to win. The Kopuarabi team had won every match, but the Turua team had suffered one defeat.

Many suggestions were made, among them being that Kerepeehi and Kpouaraiii and Turua and Kaitakaruru play off, and in the event of Kopuarahi securing less points than Turua these two teams should play off to decide the winner.

Finally it’was decided by five votes to three that a team winning by de. fault should be given the maximum of 105 points. Thio means that Kopuarahi wins the competition.

The effect of this decision is farreaching. The Turua delegate announced that his team would forfeit its match to Waitakaruru, which team, by the addition of maximum points for its three wins oy default, now comeis up to third place with 516 points and the Tur.ua team drops back to fourth place with 474 points. The Kopuarahi team has 583 points, and Ngatea is second with 521 to its credit. Kerepeehi, Hopai, and Kaihere each forfeited one match and have 341, 290, and 246 points respectively. , PLAINS CHAMPIONSHIP.
