The regular meeting of the Paeroa Borough Council will be held to-mor-row evening.

The erection ofl two cottages for railwaymen opposite the Komata North railway station is nearing completion.

A start has been made with the erection of a wharf at Ngatea for the N.Z. Co-operative Dairy Company. The new structure will be alongside ihe present wharf.

An advertising campaign, costing £5OO, has been authorised by the Wellington- City Council to meet the competition by the suburban farmers against the municipal milk supply.

Good progress is'being made with the new railway station building at Paeroa The foundations for the building have been completed, the erection of the fr.ame-work is proceeding steadily.

The final matches of the second round in the competition under the control of the Hauraki Plains Cricket Association will be played on Saturday next, Pipiroa and Kopuarahi teams playing at Pipiro,a and Ngatea and Kaihere teams at Ngatea.

A very pleasant little social function was held in the Kerepeehi Hall on Friday evening for the purpose of raisinr funds for the Kerepeehi Tennis Club. The music wats supplied bv Mrs Hudson and Mrs Fisher, and the dance was voted a very pleasant one.

Many of the friends of Mr G. A. Avey, of Kerepeehi, gathered at a smoke social on Friday evening to bid him farewell. Mr J. Murdock presided, and during the evening Mr 1. D. Jones and Mr G. Barnbrook, on behalf of their friends, presented Mr Avye with a case of pipes and a toilet set for Mrs Avey.

Mr W. E. Hale, Kopuarahi, chairman of the Thames Hospital Board, who met with a serious accident io his left hand isome months ago, left for Rotorua yesterday to undergo a course of special treatment for the injury.

There i snow a continuous strip of bitumen-bound road from the corner of Orchard East Road to Turua. The N.Z. Roads Co. is now concentrating on the road to Orongo. The main Tu-rua-Netherton road has been scarified and rolled for a short distance southwards from the Orchard East Road corner.

The Rawhiti and Golden Zone special quartz claims at Owiharoa have been amalgamated and .are being incorpot ated with two freehold properties adjoining, making a total area of about 150 acres, these properties adjoin the Rising Sun Gold Mining Company’s claims, and are at the present time being floated in England.

The road from,the Hauraki Plains to Auckland is now in, good order except for small patches. The' clay road from Waitakaruru to the county boundary is now being graded, but for the next few miles the going is very rough. From there on to Pokeno the road is good, and shingling is being done at various points.

The Kerepeehi members of the Hauraki Plains A. and .P Association have already, begun preparing tne showground for the annual show, which will be held on Saturday, March 7. On Saturday last (several men with teams of horses and farm implements were engaged levelling the ground.

Mr Fraiik Wallis and Mr W. Knox, of Pipiroa, who are leaving shortly for Fiji and Timaru respectively, were the guests of honour at a smoke social held in the Pipiroa Hall on Saturday evening. A pleasant time was spent, and during the evening Mr Knox was presented with a set of military hairbrushes and Mr Wallis with a pipe and tobacco pouch.

There was a fair yarding of stobk at the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company’s Ngatea sale on Monday, mostly cow beef, and competition was not so keen as at previous sales, butt he, prices realised compared favourably with those of other markets. Fat cows brought from £4 17s 6d to £7 8s ; fresh and forward- cows £3 to £4 Ils; store cows up to 355. Potting bulls sold up to £5, and fat heifers from £4 to £f>.
