DISTRICT NEWS.
KEREPEEHI. STREET LIGHTS. The Kerepeehi Street Lighting Committee has decided 1 to ask the County Council to tase over i esponsibility for payment of two of the existing street lights instead of .having two more erected. The annual balance-sheet presented recently showed that the finances of the committee were in a sound condition, and it was mentioned that the funds would shortly be augmented by the proceeds of the jazz ciaisses, which would recommence shortly. HALL SITE. Some years ago there was a movement in Kerepeehi to secure a public hall for the township, and a section of land was purchased. However, in the meantime private enterprise provided an excellent hall, and the. proposal lay dormant. Some months/ ago the secretary of the society was inntructed to ascertain from the Registrar of Incorporated Societies if i*. was permissible to utilise the funds collected and the isite acquired for other than the original intention. The Registrar replied that the question was one for the society s legal adviser, and at a meeting on Tuesday evening it was decided that this should be done. The funds in hand amount to about £22. Mr W. Booth was secretary to the society vice Mr G- A. Avey, who will shortly be leaving the district. THE KEREPEEHI STORE. Messrs Beale Bros., Ltd., have taken over the grocery store formerly owned bj Messns Masters and Avey. M’’ h Kneebone is managing the business for the new owners.
