PLAINS RATES.
(To the Editor], Sir,—I note in a recent issue of your paper and in connection with a report upon the visit of the Minister for Lands to the Plains, a. statement to the effect that I remarked, in reply to a question, “that die administrative expenses of the Hauraki Plains County cost fifty per cent, of the collectable rate.” I was incorrectly reported. What I did say was that the administrative expenses, and other charges against the general fund (overhead expenses), totalled fifty per cent, of the rates struck, which is a totally different thing.
