PAEROA BOROUGH.
MONTHLY. COUNCIL MEETING. The Paeroa Borough Council held its first meeting this year last night, His Worship the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall) presiding over Crs. T. P. Vuglar, 'H. M. Shand, G. P. Lamb, F. B. Flatt,' P. E. Brenan, W. Bain, E. • Edwards, and the town clerk, Mr W. C. Alexander. MINISTER’S VISIT. The Hon. A. D. McLeod, Minister for Lands, advised that he would be in Paeroa on Monday, 26tn instant, and would be prepared to receive any deputations. •/“ The Mayor said that the council would wait on the Minister with reference to municipal reserves. HEALTH REGULATIONS. The district'health office, Auckland, and the Department of Public Health, Wellington, forwarded a telegram and circulars setting out regulations and the precautions adopted to combat the spread of infantile paralysis in New Zealand. The Mayor intimated that heads of churches, and others affected, had r been circularised, and the health ■ committee was doing its utmost to sec that the regulations were carried out. BUILDING ON PUBLIC RESERVE. The Under-Secretary, Department of Internal Affairs, wrote stating that /’ it had been brought under the notice ~ of the Minister that the, council had .. erected a fire station on a public re- ... serve, and that a portion of the building was being uised as a borough workshop, and also for other council purposes. In order that the matter might receive further consideration the council was requested to forward any comments that it desired to make. A further letter from the department acknowledged the council’s reply acd. noted that special provision had been made in the Washing-up Bill, 1923. BOROUGH BOUNDARIES. The Department of Internal Affairs acknowledged the councils’ communiz cation relative to the alteration of the borough boundaries, and advised that with reference to the area included in the borough a notice would be issued pursuant to section 141, Municipal Corporations Act, 1920, redefining the boundaries of the district affected. It was proposed in that ■ notice' to clear the ambiguity in the description of the areas included in the borough. With reference to the area excluded from the borough, it was stated that after consultation with the Under-Secretary for Lands, whose department had prepared the description, advice had been- received that . the description of the area had.been certified to as correct by the chief surveyor, Auckland. As there might be some ambiguity, for .the reasons set out in the council’s letter it was proposed to . clear up any such am- ’ biguity when issuing the re-definition notice referred to, a copy of which was attached. GAZETTING OF LOANS. The Department of Internal Affairs acknc vledged receipt of the result oi . the poll taken on loan proposals and ' advised that the matter of publication in the N.Z .Gazette came under the administration of the State Advances Department,'and the informa-, ' tion had been handed on to the superintendent of that office. VESTING OF RESERVE. The Commissioner of Crown Lands, • Auckland, replied to the application to have Rawiiitiroa Block A No. 3, 5. and Biock No. 2, containing an area of 3 acres 2 roods 37-6 perches, vested in the council as a municipal reserve. He stated that authority had been given for the vesting of the area on payment of the sum of £230, when a title would be issued.—-Deferred until next meeting. BALANCE-SHEETS. The Auditor-General returned the balance-sheets duly certified for the years ending March 31, 1923 .and 1924. The, town clerk was instructed to take the necessary steps to publish ■ as in past years. LABOURERS’ DISPUTE. The Auckland Provincial Employers’ Association wrote with reference "to citation from the Labourers’ Union for a new award and advised that February 4, at Hamilton, was the date and place fixed for the conciliation, and it was proposed to arrange a meeting of delegates at the associa-r tion’s office, on Wednesday, January 28. to discuss the demands and to appoint assessors. It was decided that the . date submitted was unsuitable, but that if a suitable date, could be arranged, the mattei of appointing a delegate be left in the hands of the town clerk and Mayor. > ’ APPLICATION FOR CROSSING. James Pennell applied tor a road crossing into his property, Station Roadrand stated that he wag prepared to provide the material and do the necessary work if the application was . granted.—Referred to the town clerk. ARNEY STREET DRAIN. Mrs J. Coote asked that the weeds blocking the drain and causing the water to stagnate near her property in Arney Street be removed. —Referred to the foreman. DRIVER’S LICENSE The inspector of machinery wrote advising that the driver of the council’s road roller must be in possession of either a traction or loco, and traction driver’s certificate. WATER MAINS. Cr. Flatt asked when the money would be forthcoming to provide for ■ four-inch water maims, and also that when the work of enlarging the mains was undertaken if provision would be made tor alterations to fire-plugs in .the borough. The Mayor replied that steps had .been taken to obtain the loan money c.. authorised by the ratepayers, and as .soon, as it was available the work .would be. put in hand..
