TELEPHONE LIST.
ADDITIONAL EXCHANGES. INCREASE OF LOCAL USERS. A new telephone exchange directory, corrected to December 8, 1924, for the Thames postal district, has just been received. The new list contains some additional telephone exchanges which have been opened since the date of the last issue of the directory in May, 1924. The Ngatea exchange, with 97 subscribers, is the largest-addition. Hikutaia comes next with 54 subscribers.
The list shows that there are 209 subscribers on the Paeroa exchange, which is an increase of seven on the previous list. Paeroa is graded 4 on the list of base-rate areas, and under such classification the exchange hours are from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. with the exception of Sundays and holidays, , By obtaining one more subscriber the town would be placed in grade 3 and then be entitled to a continuous exchange service. The telephone rentals for a continuous service would be increased by £2 per annum on a business connection and £1 for a residence connection on the rate charged for Paeroa. At the present time Paeroa could obtain a continuous service by the subscr’hers paying the extra amount.
