A VALUABLE BULL.
MIL M. CRIMMINS’ PURCHASE. ADDITION TO JERSEY HERD. Mr Maurice Crimmins, of Waikino, •who had* the misfortune a few months ago to lose a very valuable young 'pedigree Jersey bull, has succeeded in replacing the animal with anouther hignly-bred bull in Lakeside’s Eminent, a five-year-old son of V.C. and Eminent’s. Maggie, and a fnl.l brother to the noted prize-winner Eminent’s V.C., who as a two-year-old was placed first at the Royal Melbourne Show in 1919, was first and reserve champion at Melbourne the following year, also first and champion at Benalla the same year. Those were the only occasions on which the animal was exhibited.
Lakeside’s Eminent was purchased from Mr Victor Nowell, of Hawera, and needless to say a very substantial figure was paid for him by Mr Crimmins. His sire, V.C., wajs bred in England by that successful breeder, Dr H. Watoey, and was purchased by Mr Denner from Mr Moreland, senr., in 1917. V.C.’s eldest tested daughter, Waipiko Gerda, produced 7101 b of fat as a three-year-old, and three other of his daughters tested as heifers had records all above 5001 b of fat. Eminent’s Maggie, dam of Lakeside’s Eminent, is the best daughter of Eminent’s Fontaine and the only cow in New Zealand whose two full brothers sired heifers which as two-year-olds gave over 7001 b of fat each. She is a magnificent type of cow, and was fiist and champion at Feilding iii 1916. As a two-year-old she produce! 572.131 b of fat. With’such credentials as these Lakeside’s Eminent should be a welcome and valuable addition to the pedigree Jerseys in the district, and the members of the Thames Valley Jersey Breeders’ Club have some very fine animals.
