FIGURES FOR THE YEAR. THE POSITION OF AUCKLAND. Dealing with dairying statistical tables the latest issue of the N.Z. Year Book states that the popular description of Taranaki as the "butter” province is no longer justified, pride of place in this connection being easily taken by Auckland. Taranaki, however, forwarded for export in 1923-24 more than twice the amount of cheese forwarded by her nearest competitor (Wellington). Taranaki comes second and Wellington third in butter .production.

Disregarding dual-plant factories, the returns for last season indicate an average of 404.10 tons per factory for butter and 183.80 tons for cheese, while if dual-plant factories are included the averages are 319.03 tons and 161.95 tons respectively.

In 1924 in the Auckland province there were 64 butter, 46 cheese, and 6 dual-plnta factories. The butter forwarded for export from the Auckland province during the period totalled 32,563 tons, and cheese 10,112 tons, representing the output of 16,036 butter and 1342 cheese suppliers. Tn die Taranaki province there were 16 butter, 54 cheese, and 11 dual-plant factories. There were 7851 tens of butter forwarded for export and 28,970 tons of cheese, representing the output from 5416 butter and 3672 cheesq suppliers.
