TOURNAMENT AT TE ARORA. DETAILS OF THE FINAL. Tlie final in the Te Aroha Tournament was played on Monday morning between Paeroa (Higgins, Hayward, Hague-Smith, and Towers, skip) and Te Aroha (Tony, Bath, Boies, and Ngakura, skip). Details of play are as follows:—

Ist Head: Tony drew the shot, but Hague-Smith rested him out and lay 2. Boles drove and missed. Towers drew another, and Ngakura hung up tire opposition wood and pushed in another shot, leaving Faeroa 3. 2nd Head : Te Aroha were lying 2 shots behind the jack when the skips went down. Towers’ second bowl wicked in for a shot. Ngakura drove with the last bowl, notching 4. Te Aroha 4, Paeroa 3.

3rd Head: To Aroha lay 2 when the skips came back,, but failed to make any alteration. Te Aroha 6, Paeroa 3. 4th Head ; Bath, on a scattered head, drew the jack back for 2. Boles pushed in another. Paeroa failed to negotiate the long head, which went to Te Aroha for 4. Te Aroha 10, Paeroa 3.

sth Head : Paeroa was lying 2 when the skips came back. Ngakura drove but failed to alter the head, making the score Te Aroha 10, Paeroa 5. 6th Head: Higgins drew a beauty on the jack, which was displaced with the next bowl, leaving Te Aroha the shot. Te Aroha 12, Paeroa 8. 10th Head : Bath got shot 6in from the jack, and Boles drew another 2. Tower; drove and took out one, but Ngakura notched a third. Towers drove and scattered the head, leaving Paeroa 1 up, but Ngakura drove it out and lay 1. Te Aroha 13, Paeroa 8. 11th Head: Bath drew the shot with his first and shifted the jack for 2 with his second. Hague-Smith played a running shot and scattered the bowls and lay behind for shot. The head remained unaltered. Te Aroha 13 Paeroa 9. 12th Head: Paeroa’s lead played two good ones. Ngakura’s lead drove ami missed. Boles drove and carried the jack to the ditch but his bowl went dead. Towers drew the shot 2ft from the ditch, but Ngakura beat it. Te Aroha 14, Paeroa 9. 13th Head: On a wide head Bath the shot a foot behind the jack. Hague-Smith pushed a Te Aroha bowl for 2, followed by Ngakura drawing 2. Te Aroha 18, Paeroa 9. 14th Head: Paeroa. played short, and when the skips came Te Arohi was lying 4. Towers turned in his own bowl for second shot. Te Aroha 19, Paeroa 9. 15th Head: Bath drew the shot for Te Aroha, but Hayward beat it 9in from the jack. Boles drove and chipped the jack for 3. Ngakura drew another on the jack. Towel's drove, removing one. Towers burnt the head. 16th Head : Te Arolia’s lead drew the shot 18in in front. Paeroa displaced but failed to count. The head remained unaltered. Te Aroha 20, Paeroa 9. J7th Head: Higgins drew the shot 6in from the jack. Towers added another. Te Aroha 20, Paeroa 11. 18th Head: Paeroa’s load played one on the jack. Bath drew .the jac.r to the side line for 1. Ngakura drew another. Te Aroha 22, Paeroa 11. i 9th Head : Te Aroha drew the shot, but Hayward got one inside on the jack. Hague-Smith added another. Towers pushed Te Arolia’s timber in for the second shot. Te Aroha *22, Paeroa. 12. 20th Head: After some give and take play the shot went to Te Aroha. Te Aroha 23, Paeroa 12. 21st Head: Te Aroha carried the jack for 2. Towers drove both bowls but missed. The final score was: c Ngakura (Te Aroha) — — 25 Towers (Paeroa) — — — 12 The game created a great amount of interest, and the win. was a mos£ popular one, the winners being warmly applauded by the onlookers .and congratulated by the losers. 'dr G. Hedge, president of the l'e Aroha Bowling Club, when presenting the dockets for the trophies to the winners, said that no doubt everybody had enjoyed the play during the tournament. He recalled the interesting fact that Mr Ngakura was run-ner-up last year. Although he was glad a Te Aroha team htd won, he very old friend Mr Towers,o £ Paeroa, played a very fine game, and was to be congratulated on the performance he had put up in reaching the final. Mr Towers, in replying, said he wished, on behalf of his team and as president of the South Auckland Bowling Centre, to congratulate Mr Ngakura on his great win. He thanked the president and club for the way he and his team had been received, and for the most enjoyable time they had had in Te Aroha during the tournament.

Mr Les. Boles, on behalf of Mr Ngakura and his team, thanked the president for his kind remarks. He also wished to thank those present for the hearty applause that had greeted their play during the tournament. Mr Ngakura did not wish him to say how they had won, but to make known how they nearly lost the tournament. It was in the first game of the tourney, Ngakura v. Wallace. Ngakura was o*ne up at the 20th head. At the commencement of the 21st head Ngakura said, “Tony (lead) this is the one we must win. Place me one on the kitty.” Tony did co. Daye Wal-

lace, senr.. was heard to remark, “Dunn that Tony.” Ngakura then said, "Tony, place another one there.” Tony, being a good boy, did as he was told, and placed his second on the kitty. Dave said, “I’d like to hhve that Tony by the heels and swing him round, throw him up, and see him come down on his head.” Ngakura won the game, which meant so much to him in winning the tournament.
