PLAINS A. & P. ASSN.
PROPOSAL TO AMALGAMATE. DISCUSSION AT KERSPEEHI. A public meeting of residents of Kerepeehi and surrounding districts was held under the auspices of the Hauraki Plains A. and P. Association in the Kerepeehi Hall last evening to discuss the affairs of the association and a proposal to amalgamate with the Kerepeehi Sports Association. The president, Mr P. R. Henry, presided over Messrs L. A. W. Bagnall,. A. J. Innes, H. Hoff, J. Murdock, H.- D. Jamieson, W. Herkt, J. H. Nicholson, W. Shilton, I. D. Jones, E. Barriball, and the secretary, Mr W. Booth. ' In opening the meeting Mr Henry explained the operations of-the A. and P. Association to date and pointed out that, owing to the apparent lack of interest the question of whether the show should be held or not should be given serious consideration. The loan money had been spent, and interest and rates, etc., amounting to at least £lOO a year had to be found.
Mr Booth said that whatever was to be done should be considered solely from a financial standpoint until the affairs were in a better position. In regard to the secretaryship, he found that the position would entail a great deal more work than he bad anticipated. In his opinion it would be advisable for the time being to appoint a man who could give his full time. Mr Henry stated that this aspect had been considered and a suitable man approached. Up to the present he was not in a position to give a definite answer.
In regard to the proposed amalgamation, Mr Hoff advocated that this be given effect to, with the proviso that should the show be removed from Kerepeehi the sports association be allowed to retain its annual date. Various aspects of the question were discussed, and it was suggested that a personal canvass of the unfln.’.neial members be undertaken, and that a cattle drive be organised. Discussing the amalgamation, Mr Henry said it was suggested that on the usual 'show date an A. and P. show with stock entries restricted to pedigree cattle and with an extended programme of spectacular events should be held, and on Easter Monday the usual sports meeting would take place.
Mr Booth thought that the horticultural and other indoor sections coi’ld be extended. In addition, such attractions as Highland dancing and sheep-dog trials were well worth considering. Kerepeehi now bad its opportunity to prove whether it could run a show or not. It would be a pity to let the chance pass. - It was suggested that the president and secretary wait upon the Sports Association and ascertain if that body was agreeable to the proposal. Mr Booth moved, and Mr Barriball seconded, that it be a recommendation to the A. and P. Ajssociatio i that the annual show be held on the usual date.—Carried.
A meeting of the Sports 'Association will be held on Monday evening and the A. and P. committee will meet on Tuesday afternoon.
