FISK JUBILEE SINGERS.
APPEARANCE AT PAEROA. PROGRAMME APPRECIATED. There was only a moderate attendance at the Gaiety Theatre Paeroa, on Wednesday evening last to hear the Fisk Jubilee Singers. No doubt the unpropitious weather, and the fact that it was a late shopping night, accounted for the small number, present. Those who did attend were adequately rewarded, for seldom has more tuneful melody been presented before to a local audience. Although all the items were of the old-fashioned type, the blending and harmony of the voices was delightful, and the audience was not blow to shows its appreciation, as nearly every item was heartily encored. Possibly the gems of the entertainment so far as the solo numbers were concerned were the renderings of Miss Ron Thompson,, colouied soprano, and the old stag? favourite and silver tenor. Huntley Spencer. “The Valley of Laughter” w.as very well sung by Miss Thompson, who is the possessor'- of a natural sweet voice and a good enunciation. Mi Spencer sang the tenor solo “Lorraine” very acceptably, and was deservedly encored; Misses Bella Gibbons, Alice Baptiste, Florence Maxwell, Marjorie Alwyne, and Messns H. Penn and H. Maxwell also were heard pleasurably in various items. Of the concerted numbers by the whole company “Steal Away,” “Hear dem Bells,” and “Mary and Martha” were perhaps' that outstanding numbers. A special word of praise is due to the pianiste. Mirs Madeline Joyce, who sympathetically accompanied the singers on the piano throughout the entire programme.
