A. & P. ASSOCIATIONS.
HAURAKI COMMITTEE. MEETING AT PAEROA. A meeting of the general committee of the Hauraki A. and P. Associatino was held in Mr W. Bain’s rooms, Paeroa. last week, the president, Mr W. J. Hall, Matatoki, presiding over .Messrs P. R. Hubbard, J. P. Findlay, A. J. Andrews, H. Hare, W. J. Byrne, J. W. Sileock, and the secretary, Mr E. Edwards. REQUEST FOR DONATION. The secretary of the Paeroa Fire Council wrote soliciting a donation towards the maintenance and equipment of the volunteer fire brigade. The secretary stated that a guinea donation had been passed for payment some months ago, but that payment had not yet been made. H was resolved that while the association appreciated the efforts of the fire brigade it regretted that owing to the association’s financial position no further sum could be added to the gui.nea which would be paid forthwith. PRIZE FUNDS. 3 Several firms wrote enclosing donations to the prize funds. The secretary was instructed to write and express appreciation of the support and assistance giv en. JERSEY CATTLE PRIZES. The N.Z. Jersey Cattle Breeders Association wrote advising that payment of the subsidy on the liW money provided by the Thames ? Vall C v. Jersey Breeders’ Club for the Jersey cattle classes would be paid through that club. The letter also pointed out that the association was now subsidising £ for £ up to £l5, but as the catalogue showed that only £7 10s had been allotted a similar sum would be paid. It was decided to hand the letter to the local Jersey Breeders’ Club, with the request that - the position be explained and an endeavour be made to collect the full amount of the subsidy. THE JUDGES. Several members commented on the satisfactory work done by the judges in the various classes, and it was decided to write to each one and express thanks and appreciation of their efforts. FINANCIAL RESULT. The secretary submitted a rough balance-sheet in connection with the recent show. Receipts were given as £422 12s 9d, while the expenditure totalled £486 6s sd, leaving a deficiency, of £63 13s Bd. Commenting on the figures, the secretary stated that a sum of approximately £lll represented outstanding members’ subscriptions, of which it was estimated that about £25 would be recoverable. If the accounts presented for payment were to be paid the tank overdraft limit would be exceeded. The bank had been pressing the association to reduce its overdraft, but it was obvious that this could not be done unless those members who were in arrears paid their subscriptions. Circular letters asking for payment had been sent to a large number of members, but to date the response had been small. ’ The president remarked that if the subscriptions were only paid it would no> only assist the association to meet its liabilities, but the actual return of tne recent show would result in a small credit balance. Whilst fully appreciating the fact that many of the settlers had experienced a hard winter, he was of the opinion that an effort should be made to reduce the amount outstanding. The association could not go on as it was, and he thought that the members who were in arrears might be approached and the position put before them. “At tiny rate, something will have to be done,” he concluded. A STOCK DRIVE. it was suggested that a stock drive might be arranged some time in March next, and the arranging of details in connection with the project was left in the hand of the president and secretary. PRAISE AND GREETINGS. A special word of praise was accorded Mr Edwards for the good work he had done in connection with the recent show, and it w:as remarked that although a profit had not resulted the association realised that its secretary had done all lie could to ensure a financial success. Mr Edwards suitably responded and thanked those present for the vote of praise and appreciation of his efforts. The meeting concluded by the president wishing the members ts ecompliments of the season. PLAINS ASSOCIATION ANNUAL REPORT. The following annual report of the Hauraki Plains A. and P. Association was presented at the annual general meeting of members last week as follows :— “Favoured with a fine day the fourth annual show was a success, and the attendance was ouite equal to .that of the previous show. The number of entries, however, in ail classes was slightly less than that of the prior year. “During the year the balance of the loan raised on the security of the show ground at Kcrepeehi was received, and considerable permanent improvements have been effected therewith. At the end of the financial year the sum of £242 8s had been paid out for draining and on account of clearing rushes, and since then a further
X 203 5s »<l has been spent and the ground fenced. “Financially, the past year was not altogether successful, mainly owing to the fact that so many members have not paiil their subscriptions, the amount of which outstanding at the end of the financial year was £234 2s. Had these subscriptions been received the revenue for the year would have been sufficient to meet the expenditure, but as it was, the loan money was called upon to advance approximately £220 to meet the show expenses. interest, and rates. No doubt the past season has been a hra.il one for settlers, and probably this has contributed largely to the amount of the outstanding subscriptions. The Committee recommends the members to consider the advisability of appointing a special committee to canvass for the payment of the subscriptions owing “Now that the ground has been clearet. of rushes, drained, and fenced, it should be possible to obtain a higher rental for it, and the committee recommends that fresh tenders *je called for the grazing rights. -Mr E. Walton will be resigning the secretaryship after the annual meeting, and it will be necessary for the incoming committee to appoint another secretary. “The. committee desires to record its thanks for the generous help given by the Ladies' Committee, the Judges, and the stewards on and before last show day ; also to Mr J. T. Darlington, the N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., and the Farmers’ Co-op.
