OHINEMURI COUNTY.
Mh'ETING OF COUNCIL. The final meeting this year of the Ohinenniri County Council was held in Paeroa on Monday, the chairman, Cr. A, R. Robinson, presiding over Crs. W. F. Johnstone, A. D. McGuire, H. M. Corbett, R. R. Morrison, C. E. Mace, the clerk (Mr R. W. Evans), and the engineer (Mr E. Shaw). THAMES HARBOUR, The secretary of the Thames Harbour Board wrote advising that a piledriving ceremony in connection with the harbour improvements scheme would be performed by the Hon Minister of Marine on a date to be fixed in January, and he extended a cordial invitation to the council to be present. It was agreed to accept the invitation. HALF-HOLIDAY. The Department of Labour wrote advising that under section 15 of the Shops and Offices Act, 1921-22, it was necessary for the council to decide what working day in the week should be the statutory half-holiday for shops in the county for the year. It was pointed out that so far as the shops in Waikino were concerned there was no movement on. foot to alter the present arrangement. METAL FOR ROADS. Cr. McGuire asked that the engineer be empowered to obtain a supply of metal for patching the Paeyoa-Wailu road. —Agreed to. Cr. Johnstone reuuested that the engineer be.authorised to obtain a futther supply of metal for Old Te Aroha Road on the southern side of the railway line, the work to- be carried out early in the new year.—Granted. It was resolved, on the motion of Cr Morrison, to supply an additional fifty yards of metal for Kaimanawa and Robinson’s roads. • TENDERS. The tender of 0. Cummings, Waikino, for formation work and culverting or. Pukekauri Road at a‘ cost of sans was accepted, as also was the tender of W. Ross. Whangamata. for formation work on Whangamata Road •ft a ebst of £135. MAIN HIGHWAYS. The chairman reported thlit members of the Main Highways Board had passed through Paeroa earlier in the month. A brief stay was made in Paeroa. and various matters in co 1neetion with county roads were more or less informally discussed. The ■chairman stated that he and the engineer (Mr E. Shaw) had explained to the members of the board that the council anticipated concentrating on a greater amount of maintenance work on the main highway routes, but at the same time as much constructional work as was practicable would be carried out as finance became easier. Cr. Robinson said that the board members had endorsed the action of the council and had stated that it was very gratifying to find it was working on the right lines and was prepared to tackle the different works as necessity arose. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £l3OB 12s 2d were passed for payment.
