MODERN ELECTRICITY.
CAMBRIDGE BOARD’S INNOVATION STATIC CONDENSERS ERECTED. The new static condensers ordered by the Cambridge Power Board some months ago have arrived from London. Already six of these have been erected, and another sixteen will in all probability be working, before Christmas.
The purpose of these static condensers is to improve the present power factor. The s.ix already erected are working most satisfactorily, ami give indications that they will fully come up to expectations.
These condensers have been secured at a cost of about £6OO, on the recommendation. of the board’s engineer, Mr H. C. Oaten, and the saving effected is estimated to amount to no Jess than £520 per annum. Thus this installation is one of great importance to the board. The new apparatus is used with advantage on every electric line, and will effect a vc-y considerable saving ra power in the whole area. The Cambridge Power Board has the honour and distinction of having made the first comprehensive installation of the kind in the Dominion. Very great interest is being manifested in the innovation by other supply authorities, and if the experiment proves as successful as there is every promise under present indications, doubtless Cambridge’s example will be followed generally.
