VICTORIA BAKERY.
D.‘ LEACH'S MODERN PLANT. Mr D. Leach, a former owner of the Victoria Bakery for many years, has again taken over control of this oldestablished business, and has .adopted the slogan of Quality and Service. Under his personal management the trade has steadily increased, and it i; ’ uHi.'y this week that considerable structural and internal alterations have been made to the premises, and the bakery is now one of the most modern and hygienic in the province, which is saying a good deal. To give the public the knowledge that the bread and other edibles supplied from the Victoria Bakery are made under ideal sanitary conditions, it is worthy of record that the bread is manufactured from first quality ingredients mixed by machinery and baked in a scrupulously clean bakehouse. Mr Leach insists that every man in his employ must be a thorough tradesman, and the delivery staff are also well trained in looking after the requirements of their customers. Flour and the various ingredients used in the manufacture of the delicious ismall goods and pastries are stored "in a specially constructed airtight and dustpioof room. Owing to the good ventilation and scrupulous cleanliness of the plant and buildings, dust and flies are reduced to a minimum, iand under such conditions have the products of the Victoria Bakery become so popular with the public. Mr Leach can now undertake with his extra accommodation more trade in both bread and cakes, a speciality at presnet being Christmas cakes, of which just over a quarter of a ton have been manufactured during the past week. MALTANA BREAD. From time to time doctors have advocated before conferences of master bakers the necessity of wholemeal : bread. Mr Leach has devoted considerable time and study to the subject, and to-day he hold the letters patent for Maltana bread, which is pure, “tastj', and specially suitable for in- . vafids. Arrangements have been made for regular jsupplies of meal, and customers can rely on obtaining special quality wholemeal bread, as swell as the ordinary brown bread. Daily deliveries are made to all parts of the district. The quality of the small goods, pastries, and block cake is too well and favourably known io need comment. FRUIT AM) VEGETABLES. G. QUING SELLS THEM. In this festive season, as well as in others, Mr Geo. Quing, Belmont Road, b ready to supply all your requirements in fresh vegetables. Cucumbers, tomatoes, green peas,- lettuces, / and all salad greens, and vegetables 'in season are on hand. Mr Quing is making a special feature of fruits for the festive season, and he has acquired the knack of buying right and £ stocking only clean, fresh, saleable fruit. At the present time- plums, apricots, peaches, and fresh strawberries are arriving daily direct from the growers. Patrons can rely on getting only the choicest and freshest New Zealand grown fruit and latest shipments of Island oranges, bananas, and pines. Quality stocks of confectionery and summer drinks are also obtainable. Promptness, civility, and quality. make the keynote of the establishment. THE ECONOMIC. CHRISTMAS SUGGESTIONS. The Economic, Normanby Road, presents many attractions to the local residents and visitors to Paeroa, and Christmas gift-givers will be delighted with the variety of useful and seasonable suggestions which the stocks embrace. The wonderful values obtainable at a moderate cost speak for tliemwelves. Enumeration of the hundreds of lines would be tediouis, but Mr G. THE DOLLY VARDEN.
PURE FRUIT DRINKS AND ICES. Something of a novelty presents itself on entering the Dolly Varden in Belmont Road, four doors from the railway station. Reference is made particularly to a pure fruit juice and soda fountain, which is believed to be the only one outside of Auckland City. Only the genuine juices of pure fruits are used in the manufacture of the delicious and refreshing drinks that are obtainable from this fountain. Pure ice-cream and fruit eundaes are another feature of the Dolly Vai den. Mr R. B. Dunlop has recently installed an electrically driven icecream plant according to the Pure Foods Act which provides for perfect sanitation. The Act also provides that ice-cream shall be composed of milk and cream sterilised by boiling or pasteurised by being kept at a temperature of not less than 156 degrees Fahr., for twenty minutes and subsequently frozen. Ice-cream shall contain not less than ten, parts per centum of milk fat present in the form of cream, and ,as Mr Dudlop personally makes his ice-ci;eam and the pure milk and cream used in its manufacture is obtained from his own specially selected herd of cows kept under the most hygienic conditions—patrons can rely on getting only the purest and best. In addition to meeting the demand for icon Mr Dunldp also caters largely for the trade, dances, and social functions. This year the Dolly Varden is specially featuring English chocolates in fancy boxes, which can be later used as handkerchief or glove boxes. For the children there is an endless variety of Christmas stockings, Paiscall’s English sweets, and fascinating novelties of the season. Full stocks of Colonial sweets and biscuits are also to be found on the premises, and Island as well as local fruit is stocked, fresh supplies arriving daily. lollies and sweets. MRS. WARREN’S CORNER SHOP. It is just a year since Mrs R. B. Warren commenced business in Paeroa, and her large corner- shop in Belmont Road, opposite the railway station, has become a popular rendezvous for young and old. Mrs Warren has given a lot of time and study to the proper way to meet the wishes of the public, and the result has been a steady custom that shows how well she is serving the public taste. At her shop can be had the very best chocolates, including Cpdbury’s; Fry’s, Galey's, as well as those well-known New Zealand makes, Aulsebrook’s Brown Bros, and Geddis, and. others. Also a large variety of toffees, fancy sweets, and novelties suitable for the kiddies’ stockings.. Pure ice-cream and refreshing summer drinks are always on hand. Supplies of locally grown fruit, as well as the Island varieties, are regularly received, an<l orders are now being taken for jam fruit. Mrs Warren also holds the Paeroa distributing agency for Hellaby’s famous small goods, a supply of which no home or picnic party should be without.
