NGATEA HIGH SCHOOL.

MEETING OF COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Ngatea District High School Committee was held on Monday evening, Mr W. McDuff presiding over Messrs W. J. Clare. W. Clarke, C. W. Schultz, and Hie secretary, the Rev. E. H. Brooker. DENTAL CLINIC. An estimate of the cost of a 19ft oy 9ft 6in lean-to to house the dental clinic was presented by Mr W. J. Clare. For the building alone £45 14s 6d would be required, and the furniture and fittings would bring the total cost up to at least £7O. No provision had been made for labour, as it was proposed to erect the building by voluntary labour. The secretary was instructed io communicate with the Education Department asking what subsidy would be availably. Mr Brooker reported that a circular appeal for donations for the purpose to parents and residents. An offer to rent the room at the rate of 5s a day for one day a week when suitable to the nurse had been received from a Thames dentist. SWIMMING BATH. The Auckland Education Board’s architect advised that in his opinion the establishment of a school swimming bath at the present time was premature and he could not make any recommendation. HEADMASTER’S REPORT. . The headmaster in his monthly report stated that the roll numbers were • Primary, 130; secondary, 12. The average attendance since November 1 was 119.3 primary and 9.9 secondary. He suggested that the long grass in the boys’ playground be cut down. SUNDAY TENNIS. The matter of the playing of tennis on the school court was brought up by Mr Schultz, who contended that the practice should be stopped. The matter was discussed at length, and decided opinions were expressed. Mr Clare moved, and Mr Clarke seconded, that the court be closed from 10.30 a.m. till 3.30 p.m. on Sundays. An amendment by Messrs Schultz and Brooker, to the effect that the courts be closed all day was defeated, and the motion was carried on the chaii man’s casting vote.
