The monthly meeting of the Hattrak> Plains County Council will be held to-morrow. The- Patetonga Tennis Club's new concrete courts were formally opened for the season on Thursday last in the presence of a large attendance of tennis enthusiasts and friends. A very creditable conceit was presented by a party of Thamesites in the Victoria Hall,, Turua, on Thursday evening. The" function was organised to raise funds to augment the Presbyterian Church building fund. It is stated in Pipiroa that a donation of £lOO will, probably be forthcoming from the Thames Chamber of Commerce towards the cost of erecting the approaches of the proposed ferry to connect Pipiroa and Kopuarabi. The contractors for the new manual training school, for Paeroa have made a start with the erection of the building in Miller Avenue. Nearly all the timber required is stacked an the site. • Tlie piles are in, and a start will be made this week to put up the framework. Pesplte several heavy snowers of rain that fell locally on Saturday morning the weathei' cleared before mid-day and remained -fine throughout the afternoon. Similar conditions prevailed yesterday, but in the afternoon n blustery north-westerly wind arose and made the conditions for out-door pleasure rather unpleasant.
The Frank Poland Memorial Cup wiil be presented to the Hauraki Plains Rugby Union at a social, at Ngatea on Wednesday next, and at th? same time the Stretton-Pinchess Cup, the Patetonga Shield, and the representatives’ caps will, also be presented-
Tiie tennis match which was to have been played at Paeroa on Saturday between Paeroa and Thames did not eventuate. Advice was received by the local secretaiy on Saturday morning that the Thames players were unable to make the trip owing to the unpropitious weather.
The recently formed branch of the Plunket Society in Kerepeehi held a very successful concert in the hall on Friday evening for the purpose M raising funds for'' the purchase of equipment. A varied programme m vocal items and dances was presented by local people, and at the conclusion a dance was held.
A slight mishap occurred at the Ngatea bridge on Thursday evening, when the scow Torere was coming down-stream and .the tide was going out Evidently istecring way was lost or a miscalculation made, for the vessel struck the bridge, breaking its bowsprit and doing other damage, fhe bridge was hot injured.
ip order to make themselves fully conversant with the condition of the land and the drainage works under their control members of the Horahia Drainage Board made, a thorough inispeclion of the Kerepeehi eiiil ol the drainage area on Friday last. Otliei localities will be inspected in the near future.
A share-milking dispute between Mt-R. B. Paul, farmer, of Ngatea, and Mr G Harper, share-milker, was referred to arbitration at Ngatea on Thursday last. Mr E. Wajton appealed for Paul and Mr J. C. Garland for Harper, and . the arbitrators- were Messis W. E. Hale, of Kopuarahi, and C. D. Wright, of Thames. Numerous witnesses were heard, the case lasting from 9.30 a.m. until 9 pan., with two ishort breaks for meajs. The arbitrators will confer and give their award later.
Argo Concentrates, 'Ltd., the company formed to treat the sands in the Ohinemuri River with a view.to recovering their gold contents will, subject to the weather conditions proving favouiable, be in a position to commence work this week (says the Wa’hi Telegraph). The acting manager, Mr R. T. Sando, reports that after an experimental run, which gave encouraging indications, it was found necessary to make certain adjustments to the plant, and these are nearine completion.
The secretary of the Hauraki A. and P Association reports that a mistake was made in connection with the weight of the bullock which was used for the weight-computing competition at the show. The weight was ItiOYalb and not 750y 2 lb, as previously published. The winners of the prizes are Mrs Hansen and Mr Flatt (Paeroa) 7601 b, and Mr V. Alley (Hikutain) 7611 b, who tie for the prize. The alteration makes Mrs Hansen the winner of the aggregate prize, her figures being Yolb out :n the bullock, 3y 2 lb out in the pig, and 71b out in the sheep.
