DROWNING ACCIDENT
FUNERAL OF VICTIM. The remains of the late Mi' John Wesley Reed, who was accidentally drowned in the Waihou River neai Mangaiti on Wednesday evening last, were la id .to rest in the Paeroa Cemetery yesterday afternoon. A memorium service was conducted by the Rev. A. E. Jefferson at the local Methodist Church prior to the departure of the funeral for the cemetery. The cortege was a lengthy one, and iucludeci in it were the Mayor (Mr W. Marshall), the teachers of the Methodist Sunday School, representatives of the local office of the Public Works Department, and sixteen members of the Loyal Jubilee Lodge, ML'., 1.0.0. F. of which Order deceased was a member. Prior to the departure of the funeral from the' church photographs were taken for the purpose of sending to deceased’s relatives m England. The funeral service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. Jefferson, at the conclusion of which the Oddfellows’ i uncial tservicc was impressively read byßro. J. W. Fox, I.P.N.G. Messrs J. Bigelow, H. J. Day, H. Underwood, E, Roke, and L. Marshall acted as pall-bearers. In the report of the drowning accident ir Friday's issue of the ‘‘Gazette it was stated that a man named O'Brien went to the rescue of deceased. From further received it should have read that Mr R. Day attempted the rescue.
