THE TURUA DOMAIN.

CONSTITUTION OF BOARD. REASON FOR DELAY. As some months had elapwed since a domain board was appointed in Turua and no move had been made by th« Commissioner of Crown Lands in regard to having it gazette I, a letter was sent by the clerk of the Turua Town Board, by instruction of the ehaii man, asking if anything could be done to expedite the matter. Numerous offers for grazing had been received, and it was necessary to carry out improvements for the forthcoming sports.

To this communication the Commissioner of Crown Lands replied as follows :—

”1 i egret that the appointment of the domain board cannot be completed until the Crown’s title to lets 264 to 269 of Town of Turua Extension N 0.2 has been issued. The District Land Registrar is not in a position to issue this title until the plasi of the extensiion has been deposited, and so far I have been unable to ascertain whether the surveyor (Mr HaJjje) hais taken the necessary action in this connection. It might be advisable for you to communicate with Mr Haise and a.k him to expedite the deposit of the plan, and at the same time request him to advise this office immediately he has done so.” At tne Town Board meeting on Wednesday evening Mr Mules suggested that the board should hand over control of. the area to the men nominated as the Domain Board. That committee might be able to take iseme action before it was constituted as the do'inain board. There y'as a certain amount of money available from Mr Olsen s picture benefit and from grazing fees, and it was necessary to improve the fences if the area was vj continue to be leased.

The clerk said that the board had appointed a committee to work in conjunction with representatives of the sports clubs to exercise control until the domain board was constituted. Control of the area had been granted to the Town Board by Messis Bagnail Bros, until, the area was gazetted a public domain. It was decided, on the motion of Mr Mules, that a new committee, comprising Messrs White, Porteous, Gray, and Chapman of the Sports Club, and Messrs Davies, Olsen, and Mules of the Town Board, be granted control of the area until it was constituted a public domain.
