HAURAKI PLAINS ASSOCIATION. . ANNUAL MEETING AT NGATEA. The annual meeting of the Hauraki Plains Tennis Association was held at Ngatea on Wednesday, Mr G. J. Walker presiding over Messrs J. N. Anderson, L. Penny, J. Miller, L. Williams, and A. ■R, Vowles. ANNUAL REPORT. The second annual report was as follows :— “It is with pleasure and satisfaction that a most successful season is reported. Eight clubs were affiliated, representing approximately 200 players. The competitions were entered into with most commendable keenness by members of all, clubs, and the standard of play shows a decided improvement over previous seasons. The handicap tournament proved very popular, attracting entities from 23 ladies in the singles and 12 pairs in the doubles, and 40 men in the singles and 22 pairs in the doubles.” The balance-sheet showed receipts totalling £26 14s lOd, being: Affiliation fees £l2, transfer from the tournament account £6 Ils Gd, and balance brought forward £8 3s 4d. The expenditure totalled £ll 0s id, made up of: Affiliation with the Auckland Tennis Asosciation and annual subscriptions £4 14s 6d, postages, stationery, etc., £2 Is 4xl, printing of rules £2, and transfer to the Ball account £2 4s 3d; leaving a credit balance of £l5 14s 9d compared with £8 3s 4d at the end of the previous season The report and balance-sheet were adopted and a vote of.thanks accorded the secretary, Mr A. R. Vowles, for the work he had done. OFFICERS. The officers appointed for the ensuing year were : President, Mr B. Frecklington ; vice-president, Mr G. I Walker ; secretary and treasurer, Mr A. R. Vowles. A vote of appreciation of the services rendered by the .retiring president, Mr W. G. Hayward, was carried. COMPETITIONS. The secretary reported that the old Pateroa club had divided into the Patetonga and Mangawhero clubs. The latter had decided to affiliate, but Patetonga was tstill undecidedThere would thus be eight or nine affiliated clubs. In view of this indecision it was left to the secretary to call a special meeting to make the draw for the inter-club competitions whejn all entries had been received. It was decided to commence the competition on December 13, and to play straight on with the exception of December 27, 1924', and January 3 1925, and to play only one round. After a great deal of discussion as to the merits of scoring points for the competitions by sets, as in the j?ast, or by games, as had often, been suggested during ) ( ast season, it was decided that for the Laidlaw Cup and the Hayward Shield competitions points would be given on the total of games won. Details of the games must be forwarded to the secretary of. the association by the home team within seven days of the match, failing which that team may not, at the discretion of the executive, be credited with the games won at such match. The secretary’ reported that a gold medal had been presented by Mr J. Ford, of Auckland, for a men’s championship singles, and another had been promised by Mr Devereaux for a ladies’ singles championship. It was decided to hold a championship competition for ladies and for men of affiliated clubs, entries to be received up till the end of January’, with an entrance fee of 2s 6d. The best of three advantage sets will decide the winners. VISIT OF THAMES PLAYERS. LOCAL TEAM FOR TO-MORROW. The following team will play against Thames at the Paeroa courts to-mor-row :— Men.—C.
