PAEROA’S WAR MEMORIAL.

Sir, —it is now over six years since the Armistice, which brought the World War to a close, was proclaimed, and yet Paeroa is no nearer to carrying out its intention to erect a suitable war memorial, in the town. Several more or less half-hearted attempts have been made to collect funds for the purpose, and several public meetings have been held to discuss what form the memorial should take, but up to the present the town has nothing to show, although towns with less population than Paeroa have paid tribute to the memory of the Fallen by erecting public memorials. With the advent of the fine building which it is proposed to erect as a post office no provision has been made for a town clock. It is understood that the building lends itself to the provision of a tower. It has been suggested that Paeroa’s memorial might take the form of a town clock, lighted by electricity, and suitably mounted in a tower in the new post office building. Should the suggestion commend itself to .the public it will be necessary to move in the matter at once, as the permission of the department to deviate from the present plans will have to be obtained before the closing dace of • the tenders. BIG BEN.
