JOCKEY KILLED.

TAKAPUNA ACCIDENT. DEATH OF A. J. McFEYNN. The news that the jockey Mr A. J. McFlynn had received such injuries, in the first race at Takapuna on Saturday, that he died a few hours afterwards, caused quite a shock to the many who knew him. During the running of the race Herculean, ridden by W. Bryce, Golden Sovereign (J. Dombroski), and Passionate (McFlynn) fell when the horses were about two furlongs from home. It was at once seen that Bryce and McFlynn were injured, the latter seriously. They were taken to the casualty room, medically examined, and afterwards pent to the Auckland ■Hospital in a St. John ambulance. It was recognised that Me Flynn’s case was serious, as he was suffering from a fractured pelvis, and’ death took place before an operation could be attempted. The deceased, who was well known m this district, was born at Thames, and for some years was following farming punsuits at Hikutaia. His ability as o horseman was well known, he having ridden many prominent winners throughout the Dominion. The deceased jockey, who resided at Green Lane, was 39 years of age, and leaves a widow 1 and throe children. Much sympathy will be felt for the bereaved family.
