OPENING OF SEASON. GAMES ON THE PLAINS. The first cricket matches of the season were played on the Hauraki Plains on Saturday last in ideal weather conditions, when an eleven from the newly formed Ngaiea club played the Pipiroa Club’s eleven at Pipiroa and the Kopuarahi Club's team played an eleven representing the newlyformed Kaihere Club. In each case the senior team proved victorious, and while in several of the teams there were players who had never before handled a bat, there proved to be much promising material. At Pipiroa a one-innings match was played, as the visiting team could not get away before lunch. Ngatea batted first, and were all out for 17. Pipiroa then went in and knocked up 48. it it was yet early in the afternoon the visitors were again sent in to bat. and this time 59 runs were secured before stumps were drawn at 4'.45 p.m. Details of the scores are as follows: NGATEA—-First Innings.
