HEALTH OF CHILDREN.

SCHOOL METHODS EXPLAINED. MEDICAL -OFFICER’S SUGGESTION. At the last meeing o£ the Wel/ington Education Board Drs. Ada Patteison and H. Bakewell, school medical officers, attended to explain the metnods adopted in carrying out their regular inspections in the schools. Dr. Patterson said that there was something wanting in regard to the cleanliness of schools, and she suggested that once a year at least a thorough cleansing should be carried out by means of vacuum cleaners, etc. In answer to Mr Wright, Dr. Patteison stated that when anything wrong was found with a child’s health, a sealed notice wae sent to the parents so that the matter could be remedied. In answer to other members, Dr Patterson explained the card system of keeping records of unhealthy children, which were checked on subsequent visits. There was no question but that the .dental treatment of pupils had effected definite improvement in their health and in other respects. Such troubles as adenoids and malnutrition had decreased by a third of what they were a year ago.
