THE SHOW.
OPENING ON WEDNESDAY. ARRANGEMENTS WELL IN HAND. Given reasonably fine weather the success of the Hauraki A. and PAssociation’s twenty-sixth annual stock show, which will be held in the Paeroa Domain on Wednesday and Thursday, promises to be greater than on alj previous occasions. The entries received up to the closing date were considered very satisfactory, and since then a large number of late entries have been received. In the cattle section the Jersey breed .-.s supplying the largest number of exhibits, and the number of exhibitors, i ae well as the number of cattle, of this breed shows a considerable increase compared with last year. Among the many prominent breeders I who are showing Jersey cattle are a number from the Waikato, including Messrs Tom Church and W. J- Chynoweth. both of whom were prizewinners at the recent summer show T* at Hamilton. The fact that the Captain Hubbard Memorial Shield is to be, competed for by Friesian cattle this year is to a large extent, no doubt, responsible for the increase in the number of entries received in the classes for this breed, and included in the entries are several from the Matangi Friesian Co., Waikato. So far as the number of entries is concerned there is a decrease in the Shorthorn classes this year, but no doubt quality will be in evidence. A class that has attracted a record number of entries is that for children’s calves, no fewer than twentythree entries having been received. The Milch Stock and Fat Cattle classes have been well supported by exhibitors in each case. Good entries have been received tor the various ring events, pud it is very gratifying to learn that several of the competitors at the Hamilton summer show have entered their horses for the different competitions at our local show. Competition is bound to be keen, and it augurs well for the success of the show that the equine competitions are so keenly sought after by from outside the Thames Valley and Hauraki Plainis districts. An allround increase is shown, in the pony classes, and no doubt the various events will be keenly contested. Applications for space for trade exhibits and side-shows have been received in satisfactory numbers, so it is evident that there will be ample attraction for the thorough enjoyment of all. The show officiate have held a series of working bees, and no pajns have been spared to eater for the pleasure and profit of patrons. Arrangements have Tbeen completed foi efficient catering on the showground, and an adequate supply of hot water will be available for those desiring to picnic under shelter of the many beautiful trees in the domain. It is hoped that the residents of Paeroa will rise to the occasion and. exteito liberal support to the association and help to make the 1924 show a record one.
