SPEED LIMIT.
LAR ON MAIN HUTT ROAD. CONSTABLE’S EVIDENCE. ”My speed reached 63 miles an hour before I overtook him,” declared Constable Morrison in the Wellington Magistrate’s Court recently with reference to Geovanni Schneider, who had exceeded the ispeed limit on the main Hutt road between Ngahauranga and Petone. The constable added that when he steadied his machine after drawing alongside defendants car, speedometer registered 50 miles per hour. Defendant, who maintained that the speed was not more than 40 miles, had passed everything on the road. The Magistrate (Mr C. R. Orr Walker, S.M.) : I think he would. Senior-Sergeant Pender stated that the man was a woolbroker by occupation. His Worship : Well, he can afford to pay a fine of £lO and costs.
