ANGLICAN CHURCH.

ANNUAL BAZAAP. SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The annual bazaar in connection with St. Paul’s. Ladies’ Guild held in the Gaiety Theatre yesterday was a very successful function and was well attended, especially in the evening. There t was a large collection of goods, including'plain and fancy sewing work, sweets, cookery, flowers, toys, and articles of all description, and these were tastefully ai ranged on the stalls around the hall and on the stage. The Black Cat sweet stall h- was the subject of much favourable comment. The stallholders and their assistants were kept busy, and a satisfactory amount was taken as a result the work of the members of the guild and friends. The display of flowers was very good considering the weather experienced during the last few days. There Lijfere more entries this year. The collections of roses, sweet peas, and cut flowers-were splendid. Geraniums were shown for the first time. In some cases there was not much difference in qualjty between the various blooms. Some of the cooking classes were well supported, and competition was keen, the general quality being favcommented upon by the judge, Mr T. H. Hale. Strawberries and cream were in demand, and good business was done in this department among the young people. Dainty afternoon tea was much appreciated, and at timeis the assistants were kept very busy. . The plain and fancy needlework and jumble stalls were well laden with various articles, which were disposed , of at reasonable prices by an enerband of -workers. Sweets and jellies were in great demand by the young people, and the novelty of getting something out of “The Village Pump” wap enjoyed by a large number of children. The arrangements were in the capable hands of the officers of the guild, including Mrs Say (president), Dobson (secretary), and Mrs (treasurer), who were acsisted by other members and young iady. friends. A number of competitions, naildriving, and candle lighting created interest and helped to bring in revenue. A feature in the evening was m item hy a number of “fairies,” who acted and danced in a manner that showed evidence of much careful training on the part of their instructors, Misses Emmott and Coote, the latter also filling, the position of accompanist. The dancing of (some of th? children was much above the usual, while a little tot. of about 2 years earned a special round of applause. The costumes of the performers were greatly admired. The play entitled “The Land of was written and composed by /-Miss - Emmott, who also acted the part of the Dustman. The other characters were as follows: Mistress Magic, Alison Barclay ; Sugar, Joan N’Smolas; Spice, Nancy Eaddy; AU-that’s-nice, Doreen Abraham; Slug, Joyce Say ; Snail, Joy Taiboys ; Puppy Dog’s Tail, Barbara Barclay; Lily, Kathleen Blakeway ; Hollyhock, Ruth Alexander ; Bluebell, J une de Castro; Buttercups, Jean Taiboys, Eva Abraham, Betty Alexander; Queen of the Fairies, Wanda Taiboys. The stalls and their attendants were as follows:— Plain sewing, Mesdames Say, W. H. Taylor, and Byrne ; fancy needlework, Mesdames Staunton, Bathers, F. Hubbard, and Flatt; jumble, Mesdames ' Morland, Conolly, Blakeway, and Barclay ; flowers, Mesdames Eiyth, Andrews; Eaddy, and Miss Argali and as►■sAstants; sweets, Mesdames Taiboys, Little, O’Neill, and Misses Nicholas ; strawberries and cream and ice cream, Mrs Alexander, Misses Emmett, de Castro, and assistants; dips, Misses Dobson, Hayward, and Gwil- . - ham; cookery, Mesdames E. Edwards ■ - and J. W. Silcock; tearooms, Mesdames Ellis, Towers, Thorp, Gwilliam, . Hargraves, S. Silcock, C. Mettam, and assistants. COMPETITIONS.
