POST PARCELS.

SIZE LIMIT INCREASED. RETURN TO PREVIOUS LIMIT. During the war, owing to the necessity of conserving shipping space, the London Post Office found it necessary to reduce to four feet length and girth combined the size limit for post parcels from Great Britain for Nev Zealand forwarded via Panama, Prior to the reduction, the size limit was six feet length and girth combined. Despite repeated representations made since the war by the General] Post Office, London, and by the High Commissioner for New Zealand, the shipping companies could not be. induced again to carry individual post parcels measuring in excess of four feet length and girth combined. As a result of personal representations recently made in London by Mr A. T. Markman, secretary of the New Zealand Post Office, however, the shipping companies concerned have now agreed to accept for conveyance to New Zealand by the Panama route parcels .measuring up to six feet length and girth combined. A condition of the agreement is that the companies shall receive some increased payment for the carriage of the larger parcels. It is understood that the British Post Office is now increasing the postage rates to meet such increased payment, The raising of the size limit will be appreciated by traders in New Zealand. The limitation in size to four feet length and girth combined has been the subject of repeated protests from chambers of commerce and individual business firms.
