LIGHTS THAT FAILED.

TROUBLES OF A MOTORIST. CAR OVER BANK. On Monday a motor party from Matamata visited the Thames races, and after tea set out on the return journey. At dark the driver found that the battery in connection with the lights was out of order. He came on very slowly through the wind and rain as far as Paeroa, where he roused up a motor engineer about 10 p.m, The man was unable to supply the necessary part or make repairs, and urged .the motorist not to attempt to proceed further without proper lights, but to stay in Paeroa for the night. The driver declared he had to be in Matamata before 5 a.m., and he could not be persuaded to stay here for the night. The motorist drove on slowly, but next morning information was received that the car had not reached Te Aroha. The man had gone too close to the edge of the road near Mangaiti and the car had capsized. Some of the occupants were bruised and cut and assistance had to be obtained from Te Aroha, The party did not reach Matamata till long after schedule time.
