GAIETY THEATRE PICTURE* TO-NIGHT THE LIGHT THAT FAILED. There were two endings to “The Light that Failed,” to be shown tonight. When Rudyard Kipling wrote this story it proved unpopular because of its tragic conclusion. Thereupon Mr Kipling wrote a second ending which gave the story what is known as a “happy sadness.” The author could not give the hero back his sight, but he could and did restore his sweetheart. In the version of “The Light that Failed’’ which George Melford produced for Paramount, featuring Jacqueline Logan, Percy Marmont, Sigrid Holmquist, and David Torrence, the happy ending was used. With the consent of the author the story was brought down to a period just prior to the commencement of the Great War in 1914. NEW FOLLIES. MONDAY NEXT, NOVEMBER 24.
