NGARUA-NGATEA ROAD. PROPOSAL FOR METALLING. At the meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council on Tuesday the Chief Drdiuage Engineer wrote .advising that the proposal for metalling the Ngarua-Ngatea road provided for a 12ft roadway with 10 inches .of broker metal and 2% inches of red blinding, Theise proposals required the sanction of the council and also Public Works Department. The estimate given was probably a liberal one, but if- the work cost less the council’s share would be less, Cr. Mayn said that the council would have to turn the offer down as it was unable to find the money. Cr. McLoughlin said the ratepayers did nut -require the road, and it was only used by through traffic. He did not think it worth while to approach the - settlers, ais most of them >vere not pioducing more than rates and rent.
Cr. ; Mayn said that if there was any section of useless road it was that portion.
Cr. McLoughlin moved that the clerk reply that the road was a bad one to get rates for, considering .it was bound by the river on one side and the farms alongside were not producing as they were subject to continual flooding. Seconded by Cr. Mayn and carried.
