COUNTY ELECTION.
EVIDENCE OF CLERK. objection by ratepayers. At the meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council on Tuesday the Ne.therton Ratepayers’ Association forwarded a copy of a resolution objecting to the attitude of the county clerk whilst giving evidence before the Local Bills Committee in respect to the bridging policy being the issue at the last election. They asked: “Are we to understand that his inference was to the effect that our riding member, being the only objector in the council to the bridging policy, was almost defeated »y another candidate who did not object to the bridging policy ?” Cr. Harris said that the clerk had 'not made such a statement. The cljsrk, Mr Walton, repeated the statement he said he had made in Wellington, and also when reporting to the council. < Cr. Harris said that this wap a correct repetition of the statement at the council meeting, and the county chairman also stated that it was a correct version of what had been stated before the Local Bills Committee. The clerk was instructed: to forward a copy of his notes to the association.
